Chickadee Fur Fever

We put out fur from our Corgis in a suet basket for nesting birds. This chickadee just went wild over the fur. She couldn't get enough! Here's a video of her collecting the fur. In the top photo she just looks like a wooly chickadee. What do you think the caption should be?

That was so cute. Chickadees nested in one of our boxes and while I was out of town, I guess the babies flew. I had not seen no activity at the nest for about 3 days upon my return, so I opened it up to find a dead baby, I left it alone but yesterday I decided I should probably empty it out. When I went back there was an egg in it. The dead baby was full of maggots, so I felt like the only thing to do is empty the whole thing and let them start over. The bed of moss and other soft stuff was like a wonderful soft bed.

Very cool! I put horse hair in a suet cage every year, and the birds seem to love it, esp. chickadees, nuthatches, and titmice.

The chickadees took a lot of my cut-off hair (my stylist thinks I'm a little weird), but it was the titmice who really loaded up.
