Young Male Hummingbird

We saw this young, male Ruby-throated Hummingbird at our feeder recently. You can see a few red feathers growing on his throat. Eventually he will have the full red throat, called the gorget, of the adult male Ruby-throated hummer. This is prime time action for hummer feeders now, because hummingbirds are migrating and all the adults, as well as the young of this year are coming to feeders. Have a great holiday weekend. Watch the hummingbirds at your feeders with your binoculars and see if you can find one like him.
