White-crowned Sparrow

This beautiful White-crowned Sparrow popped up on our deck yesterday, just for a second.
What a treat. We don't see many of these here. This one was on migration to its breeding grounds in northern Canada. Have a safe trip.

So do we! We only see about 3-4 a year here, so they are very special.

We lived in Northern Ontario for 14 years. Each Spring we looked forward to hearing these guys greet the morning. Great picture.

I saw one having a birdseed snack in my Indianapolis yard last week. First time for me. What a treat!

I've had quite a few of these beautiful birds in my Central PA backyard. I love how sharply the stripes are defined.

Just saw one of these little darlings for the first time in our backyard here in Central Toronto! As my dad and I watched it from our backyard door window, it hopped around the ground and hopped into a planter and seemed to dig with its feet looking for food in the dirt. I immediatley came online for more info. I guess the little dear is heading North! : ) May 12 2009
