I'm on the phone at dusk yesterday talking to my mother and Don yells, "Lillian, Lillian come here quick!" I run to the window and this very large moose is walking about 20 feet away from the house. Wow!!
I tell mom to hold on, and, photographer instinct kicking in, run for a camera. My Canon Mark II does not have a card in it (sidebar: never put your camera down without a fresh card in it). I grab the Canon point and shoot and get this photo through the window as the moose rounds the corner of the house. He walks down the driveway and into the woods.
Our first thoughts are how utterly cool and what a privilege it is to live in an area where we can see a moose in our yard. Proves there's enough wetlands and wildness nearby to sustain such a large mammal. Other thoughts are how both enormous this animal is, with its front heavy large shoulders, head and antlers, yet how graceful it moved as it stepped quietly past us. Kinda' like a football lineman and ballet dancer in one.

What a treat! Whenever I'm privileged enough to witness beautiful events in creation, I imagine it as a gentle kiss from God. What a wonderful gift! I wonder how many other moose have walked through your yard without your knowledge?!
"Football player and ballet dancer in one" - what a great description.
That's a pretty nice shot, even if taken through the window. The fall colors and the mist ,or is it the effect of the window make it almost look like a painting.
Really nice photo effect, even if you did not have what you wanted for your camera. Moose. AWESOME.
I love your ballet dancing football player. Terrific image and it speaks so clearly of MOOSE.
Mom saw a MOOSE on her honeymoon back in 1934 and she still tells tales of how shocking it was to see this HUGE animal up so close.
What a treasure.
Nice find, right at home!
I think males are in rut right now so they can be active. Lucky you.
