A feature story on our bird garden appears in the current issue of Birder's World Magazine, complete with photos, a map of the garden, the plants we use, and the story of how we created it. You can find the magazine on newstands or go here.
Tomorrow we will have more photos of our garden on our blog.

Hi, I read that article. Love your yard but just a bit surprised to see how much lawn you still have. Is this that no-mow kind? We have been gradually converting our partially wooded lot (1/4 acre, in city backyard) from lawn to all native plants. Like you, we have dogs so some grass is necessary, but we've reduced it down to maybe 30% or less.
It is great to have less lawn to mow, water (and never fertilize)... saves a lot of money and helps the environment.
Our lawn is low maintenance and bird-friendly, consisting of a special conservation blend of grasses that are drought tolerant and disease resistant. We use no pesticides. Lawns are habitat for many bird species that forage on the ground in low grass. So we have Eastern Bluebirds, Robins, Chipping Sparrows, Mourning Doves, Song Sparrows, Northern Flickers and many others feeding on our lawn. Converting to native plants is nice but it's also nice, in some cases, to have bird-friendly lawns for the birds.
I enjoyed reading the article, but not enough photos. ;o) The one you have here on your post is beautiful, too. I look forward to your posting more beautiful photos of your Bobolink Farm. Forty-five acres is a lot of property to maintain, isn't it? But you obviously love what you do. :)
We just posted more photos of our garden on Tuesday's blog. Enjoy.
