Egret Eyes!

One of the things I love about digital photography is that you can blow up your photos and see details about birds you might not experience otherwise. While looking at my photos of this Great Egret in flight, I noticed the eyes. Looking at it larger, I saw the placement of the eyes in relation to the bill. Wow! It gives me a new perspective and appreciation of how this Great Egret sees. Perhaps it can see down while in flight without lowering its head, and maybe do the same thing while fishing. The view of the bird in the top photo may be the last view the fish sees.

Whoah! Nice photo. I was shocked to see where the egret's eyes were placed. It must make it easier for them to fish? :3

It's as if the eyes are upside down. Or its head is upside down. It's amazing.

Lillian, your photos are awesome!! I was just looking through all of your recent posts from FL and thank you for sharing them with us -- especially us up in the cold climates vicariously enjoying birding Ding Darling with you & Don! Up here Cardinals are singing, so spring is definitely in the air!
