Waiting for Phoebes

We are waiting for our Eastern Phoebes to arrive. Even though we still have snow here in spots, spring is approaching and the weather will be in the 50's tomorrow. Phoebes are due to arrive any day now. One of the most fun things about this time of year, is that it is so full of expectations for us. So many birds will be migrating and arrive in the next 2 months. We have opened our barn doors (phoebes have nested there the past 4 years), and put out the welcome mat.

Our first Phoebe showed up in Falls Church VA this week. It went straight back to the EXACT same spot in which it nested last year. They seem to be on their way north.

We had an Eastern Phoebe couple move in to our area in East TN at the tail end of winter. They are building a nest on top of our outdoor speaker under the deck. They are fun to watch with their wagging tails and their insect-catching acrobatics!

I had been out in Michigan the last week of March, but as soon as I got back to western MA, Monday morning (30 March), the phoebes were waiting. It is always so thrilling to hear them!
