In the early morning light, this Northern Cardinal that visits our feeders on a daily basis, looks like a red flame. People occassionally ask us, "do you ever get tired of looking at the common birds," thinking we are only interested in the rare. The answer, not at all. This cardinal still takes our breath away.

When we first moved into our house last year, we had 2 cardinal pairs. Now we typically see 16-20 cardinals a day. It was delightful this past Spring, watching the parents feeding their young & teaching them how to open sunflower seeds. Although I refer to them as "the usual" cardinals, that's only because I'm so fortunate to have so many at any given time.
He does resemble a flame, with the plump body and the red plume. Such a cheery bird to see in the middle of winter!
Great message. I highlighted this post in my Zen Nature Lesson post this month.
