One of the things we look at is the bib of red on the male. It is a slightly different shape for each bird, making it possible to often recognize individuals.
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks breed in the upper quadrant of the eastern half of the U.S. and much of Canada and winter south of the U.S., so people can see them in migration.

The Rose-breasted Grosbeaks are so beautiful. I see them only in spring for a while.
I've been looking through your site, and just wanted to say you take some amazing pictures!
We had a few earlier in the spring but they only stay for a visit:( I wish they would take up residence here for the warm weather.
We also had a male and female at our feeder, but they left.
